Japanese Genre Cinema Acquisition News

Variety Magazine has reported that Dimension Films has given up its distribution rights to Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s supernatural suspense film Kairo (“Pulse”). US distribution rights to the film are now in the hands of Magnolia Pictures, the company that distributes the Thai martial arts film Ong Bak domestically.

Media Blasters has acquired North American distribution rights to “Tales of Terror From Tokyo.” Media Blasters has also announced release dates for a number of Japanese genre films:

The Takeshi Miike directed One Missed Call will be released on domestic DVD September 13th.

Joji Iida’s post apocalyptic disaster film Dragonhead will be released on September 27th.

Ishiro Honda’s 1970 classic Space Amoeba and Takeshi Miike’s Izo will be released on October 25th.
