Joshiraku Anime Announced
|The February issue of Bessatsu Shounen Magazine that goes on sale in Japan on Saturday will formally confirm the development of an anime based on Kouji Kumeta and Yasu’s current manga series Joshiraku. The manga from the creator of Sayonara, Zetsubo-sensei and the illustrator of the Toradora! light novels revolves around the back-stage conversations between young girls (joshi) who perform rakugo spoken-word performances. Kouji Kumeta’s Sayonara, Zetsubo-sensei and Katteni Kaizo manga series have previously been adapted into anime.
Although not a common subject for anime, 2006’s magical girl anime Rakugo Tennyo Oyui also incorporated the Japanese performance art of rakugo.
