K-On Movie Announced
|Coming as less surprise to otaku than to series voice actress Asami Sanada (who played teacher Sawako Yamanaka), the homepage for the K-On anime franchise has confirmed the development of a feature film now that the 26 episode second TV series has just ended. Considering the tremendous popularity of the anime franchise, it’s difficult to imagine the franchise not getting a movie.

The least interesting Kyoto Animation project gets a feature film. I’ve been waiting for them to move on to something else since the first season of K-On. Looks like I’ll still have to wait.
So, KyoAni’s holy trinity have each received extra animation projects (including the Haruhi movies and Lucky Star OVA). After watching season 1 of K-On, I’m not surprised they’re giving it a movie, but I’m sure many KyoAni fans would have preferred a new IP rather than just theatrical releases from established ones.
Hell yes, more K-ON! I am overjoyed.
Westerners can bitch all they want Kyoani says!!! Our market is the Japanese got it?
Even though I like all projects of KyoAni, I am a little disappointed of their recent tendency of making less drama and fantasy anime, and more pure moe comedy which require only medicore animation quality.
I can see their equation being: “less cost for animation + same popularity = A bigger big-ass-car for the manager”.
Yet Im not sure if their success will prevail if they keep concentrating on moe-comedy. Yet chise might be right. If that’s what Japanese want atm, then that’s what KyoAni will keep offering.
