Kadokawa To Serve Time

Former Kadokawa Shoten Publishing Co. president Haruki Kadokawa was denied a final appeal by the Supreme Court in Japan this week. A lower court ruling found him guilty of attempting to smuggle illegal drugs. The Chiba District Court has sentenced Kadokawa to four years imprisonment. The charges, and Kadokawa’s resignation as president of Kadokawa Shoten stem from his 1993 arrest for his part in ordering Kadokawa Shoten employees to smuggle cocaine from the United States into Japan.
