Little Witch Academia 2 Reaches Initial Kickstarter Goal in 5 Hours
|Studio Trigger exceeded its Kickstarter fundraising goal of $150,000 to fund the production of Little Witch Academia 2 less than five hours after launching the campaign. At present the fundraising effort (which is open to Japanese contributors) has more than doubled its initial goal, accumulating $346,996 in contributions. The studio’s 26-minute long first Little Witch Academia short film, released last March, was funded by the Japanese government’s Anime Mirai project. The staff of the first episode will reunite for the second episode to be released late next year.
I’ll be pledging $100 to this production.

This is great news! I can’t say I was into the short film itself, but the team has style coming out the broomstick and a third of a million dollars to bang out a good half-hour film means talented people are hopefully getting paid their portion for this. Lord knows that’s a rarity. I also wonder if, given Japan’s (stereotyped?) propensity to deliver on promises to the customer or else self-implode, whether Kickstarters like this might not indicate a brighter future for indie or even professional anime/manga on the global frontier. I mean, I trust my money to a project like this over an American-based video game company or other so-called nerd niche. The American thing being the thing I distrust. You know?
The first film was an amazing show, so I’m more than happy to toss them some bucks. When’s Inferno Cop coming out?
