Live-Action Gatchaman Movie Announced

The veteran Nikkatsu production studio will produce a live-action Science Ninja Team Gatchaman motion picture for summer 2013 distribution by Toho. Toya Sato (live-action Grave of the Fireflies & Kaiji movies) will direct a script written by Bloody Monday & Gantz screenwriter Yusuke Watanabe. Takashi Yamazaki (Juvenile, Returner) will direct the film’s visual effects. Reportedly the movie will feature more CG cuts than the 2009 live-action Yatterman movie, which had 1,300 CG effects shots. Tori Matsuzaka (Kamen Rider Decade) will headline the movie, playing Ken. Tatsunoko’s seminal superhero anime premiered in 1972 and aired 105 TV episodes, later getting an anime feature film and an OVA series remake.
