Marvel Over-reaching?
|Last week Marvel Comics & G4 issued a joint press release announcing the July 29 American television premiere of the Madhouse produced Iron Man & Wolverine anime television series. The press announcement credited Madhouse’s Iron Man, Wolverine, X-Men, and Blade anime series as “guided by New York Times best-selling author Warren Ellis.” British comic writer Warren Ellis has now publicly revealed that he had minimal involvement in Madhouse’s anime productions and wasn’t even aware, prior to Marvel’s press release, that he’d ever been a New York Times bestselling author. Ellis’ hardcover graphic novel Absolute Planetary 2 charted once on the New York Times bestseller list during the week of August 8, 2010.
Sounds like Marvel is desperately trying to generate buzz for its four Marvel Anime series that have been widely regarded as mediocre at best. The Blade anime television series will premiere in Japan on July 1.

Not surprising. MARVEL has invested a reasonable amount into these ridiculous efforts; gotta get something going. And hey, who wouldn’t want to be a NYT best-selling author?
Although Ellis had minimal involvement in these shows, he did get a story credit in the opening sequence for both Wolverine and X-Men. He probably didn’t notice it because his name was spelled in katakana .
What is “Marvel”? I know a company called “Disney-marvel”, but I don’t know what is that “Marvel” you talk about….
By the way, I think Disney can do better things by animating its own original characters (Xmen, Spiderman, etc).
Hmm. I completely forgot that Disney owns Marvel now.
kyouki: Nah, I don’t think I’d want my X-Men characters looking like Totally Spies rejects. There’s a reason Gargoyles was outsourced.
Yeah, because it wasn’t the big deal readers made of it, at least for the consumer. Just another acquisition.
