Massacre in Akihabara

Around 12:35 PM on Sunday, June 8th, 25 year old Tomohiro Kato allegedly intentionally drove a two-ton rental truck into the crowded pedestrian intersection of Chuo and Kanda Myojin Streets in Tokyo’s Akihabara district, striking numerous pedestrians. Kato then allegedly exited the vehicle and proceeded to stab several people with a knife. 17 people were reportedly injured and 7 have been confirmed killed. Kato was found and arrested by police shortly after the event.

Kato reportedly announced his homicidal plans on a mobile phone bulletin board about seven hours prior to the incident. CNN reports that Kato claimed to be tired of living and just wanted to commit random violence.
