Media Blasters Places 2 Releases on Hiatus
|Media Blasters has placed its scheduled February 29 release of the second DVD volume of Bakuman and the March 31 DVD release of the Ikki Tousen: Great Guardians Complete Series set on indefinite hiatus. Media Blasters did lay off 60% of its full-time staff last month but at the time reported that the downsize would not affect the company’s release schedule. No explanation for the hiatus of these two releases has been provided.

I like Media Blasters but I think as a company it’s never been as popular as ADV or Funimation.
Sure, they’ve had a few hits like Voltron (the Lion series, not the vehicles — hardly anyone likes Vehicle Voltron) and Invader Zim but in general their titles go under the radar even though they still have a fair selection of very good series in addition to many sub-par harem shows.
I appreciated that they released retro anime like Tekkaman Blade and Beast King Go-Lion and snapped these up when I could afford them.
I also have gotten some of the horror titles from MB’s other label, Tokyo Shock.
I do hope they survive. We need quirky companies like this one to offer shows the other companies don’t seem to want to license.
I still want to get Dairugger and the Kanokan series in addition to a number of other shows.
