Memories Licensing Petition Online

Active anime fan John Nixon, has organized an internet petition to urge an American license and release for the anime anthology film Memories, supervised and partially directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. The film has been screened at American anime conventions in an official Japanese produced subtitled version, and JVC has released the film’s soundtrack CD to the American market (although it’s now out of print). However, the film itself has never been officially available in the US, most commonly explained by an unusually high licensing fee sought by Japanese distributor Sony Pictures. There is a chance that massive support for the online petition will convince a domestic distributor that an American license for this esoteric anime art film may have the potential to actually recover its licensing cost and turn a profit.
