Nelvana Licenses Beyblade

Nelvana Studios, who first ventured into licensing anime with Card Captor Sakura, have announced their acquisition of the translation and distribution rights to Bakuten Shoot Beyblade. Nelvana owns the translation and distribution rights for home video, merchandising and video games throughout most of the Western Hemisphere and portions of Asia.

Hasbro Toys has published a temporary website to begin promotion of their domestic distribution of Beyblade toys.

The 51 episode TV series premiered in Japan in January 2001 and tells the story of follows an international cast of young heroes on a globetrotting quest to collect Beyblades and compete in Beyblade competitions. Beyblades are essentially spinning tops that compete in arenas; the Beyblade to spin the longest without being knocked out of the ring wins. The story has it that each Beyblade has its own magical spirit that resides inside the spinning top.
