New Confirmation of English Spirited Away

In a new interview with Reuters News Service published by the Japan Today newspaper, Studio Ghibli president Toshio Suzuki confirmed that Disney is progressing toward an English language distribution license for Hayao Miyazaki’s Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi. Suzuki states that Americans are more used to “animation musicals” than “animation films,” but his studio maintains a belief that “If you try to make a good film, everyone will come and see it.” Suzuki hints that an American release may be on the not too distant horizon, saying, “I can drop a hint that it’ll [Spirited Away] take less time to reach the international market than ‘Princess Mononoke.'”
