New St. Seiya Anime?

French artist Jerome Alquie will premier his short St. Seiya multimedia production at the Cartoonist 2001 International Animation Film Festival in Toulon, France, April 27th through the 29th. Alquie has illustrated European St. Seiya illustration books before, and has based his latest endeavour on the Hades chapter of the St. Seiya manga, in an effort to show Toei Studios and Masami Kurumada (the creator of St. Seiya) that there’s still enough interest in the 15 year old show to revive it for new animation. Masami Kurumada, and animation character designers Shingo Araki and Michi Himeno have been invited to attend the Cartoonist convention to be held in November in Paris in order to see the fan produced St. Seiya Hades chapter presentation.

To lend his support to the Cartoonist convention, Shingo Araki has created an original pencil board illustration exclusively for the April gathering. Only 300 pencil boards will be produced, to be sold 100 per day of the convention at a strict limit of one per person.

For more information on the convention, the guests of honor and a list of the anime to be screened at the convention, visit the Cartoonist 2001 official homepage.
