New Tokyopop Licenses
|Tokyopop has just announced its domestic translation of the Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School anime TV series, the Kareshi Kanojo no Jijoo (abbreviated Kare Kano) manga and the Korean action/horror manga Ragnarok: Into the Abyss.
Real Bout High School is the latest TV series production from Gonzo Studios, the creators of Gate Keepers, Vandread and Blue Submarine No. 6. The 13 episode Real Bout High School TV series, based on the popular manga/novel series published in Dragon Magazine, is scheduled to premier on Japanese television on the 30th. The production “reteams the creators of Gatekeepers, director Shinichii Tokairin (Street Fighter), character designer Keiji Gotoh (Martian Successor Nadesico, Sorcerer Hunters and Those Who Hunt Elves) and screenwriter Aya Matsui (Dragonball and Marmalade Boy).”
Tokyopop first announced the license of, then the loss of the Kare Kano manga license last year. Apparently this time the deal is complete. “Kare Kano,” which Tokyopop will translate as “He Says/She Says,” will premier in Smile magazine early next year. The high school romance/comedy/drama by Masami Tsuda was the basis for the Gainax television series adaptation scheduled for American release by Right Stuf International.
The sword and sorcery “manga” Ragnarok, Tokyopop’s second Korean “manga” license, will debut sometime after the publication of Tokyopop’s first Korean property, the horror story entitled “Island,” this August.
