NHK Announces Elementhunters Anime
|The NHK television network has launched a website revelaing the development of a Japanese/Korean co-produced sci-fi educational anime television series Elementhunters. The series will air on the NHK Educational network and aim to entertain viewers while teaching them about chemical elements. The series will premiere in July.
The Elementhunters concept was created two years ago by .hack//SIGN and Ghost in the Shell movie screenwriter Kazunori Ito. Yoshiaki Okumura (Antique Bakery) and Han-Pyo Hong will direct.
Korean and Japanese anime co-productions are infrequent, but nothing new, as anime titles including Maple Story, Animal Yokocho, and Geisters prove.
Viewers that turn their nose at “educational” anime probably shouldn’t worry, as typical “educational” adventure anime like Omoikkiri Kagaku Adventure Sounanda and Gene Diver, and shows broadcast on the NHK Educational channel, such as Telepathy Shoujo Ran, aren’t didactic about their educational content.
