Nick Simmons Responds to Plagiarism Accusations
|21 year-old comic book creator Nick Simmons has issued a public statement regarding widespread accusations that his action/horror/comedy comic series Incarnate copies images and ideas from Tite Kubo’s manga series Bleach. Simmons states:
Like most artists I am inspired by work I admire. There are certain similarities between some of my work and the work of others. This was simply meant as an homage to artists I respect, and I definitely want to apologize to any Manga fans or fellow Manga artists who feel I went too far. My inspirations reflect the fact that certain fundamental imagery is common to all Manga. This is the nature of the medium.
I am a big fan of Bleach, as well as other Manga titles. And I am certainly sorry if anyone was offended or upset by what they perceive to be the similarity between my work and the work of artists that I admire and who inspire me.
Simmons statement has done little to calm the controversy or quell the outrage of the fan community.

If the images are so common, why did you have to pull your own comic?
The side-by-side and overlay comparisons have demonstrated to me (and I suspect most of those who are criticizing him) that Simmons is not to be respected as an artist. He was lazy. The best art I have seen in his work have been images that he copied from Tite Kubo, the rest of it coming across as amateurish and inferior to many non-commercial comics that I have read. He lacks both the skill and the integrity to work as an artist.
While a single instance could be considered homage, be it a character, a pose or a piece of dialogue, but Simmons has used all of these simultaneously and repeatedly.
Nick Simmons is a hack.
Nice chest hair…
I think he will finally give up and became either an actor or a singer. Maybe his father is allowing him to be a mediocre comic “artist” for some time to make him convince himself that showbussines is HIS bussines. Let the kid be.
Did it bother anyone else that he keeps capitalizing “manga”? It’s not a proper noun.
