NPR Introduces Anime

National Public Radio has published an even-handed article introducing mainstream readers to the concept of anime and manga fandom. The article focuses principally on the American version of Shonen Jump, ironically stating that “Shonen Jump seeks to teach about Japanese culture.” [However, the US Shonen Jump has been heavily “Americanized” to include distinctly American dialogue, American humor, and re-drawn American sound effects and background art.]
