Numerous Manga Nominated for 2007 Eisner Award

The nominees for the 2007 Eisner Awards, the highest honor in America’s comic book industry, have been announced, and numerous Japanese manga have been nominated. Part of the reason for the relatively large number of Japanese nominees is this year’s debut of a “Best U.S. Edition of International Material-Japan” category. Manga nominees are:

Best U.S. Edition of International Material-Japan
After School Nightmare, by Setona Mizushiro (Go! Comi)
Antique Bakery, by Fumi Yoshinaga (Digital Manga)
Naoki Urasawa’s Monster, by Naoki Urasawa (Viz)
Old Boy, by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi (Dark Horse Manga)
Walking Man, by Jiro Taniguchi (Fanfare/Ponent Mon)

Naoki Urasawa’s Monster is also nominated for “Best Continuing Series”

Project X Challengers: Cup Noodle, by Tadashi Katoh (Digital Manga) is nominated as “Best Reality-Based Work”

The “Best Archival Collection/Project-Comic Books” category includes nominations for:
Abandon the Old In Tokyo, by Yoshihiro Tatsumi (Drawn & Quarterly)
Ode to Kirihito, by Osamu Tezuka (Vertical)

The winners of the 2007 Eisners will be announced on Friday, July 27th.
