Open Call for Fan Support of Theatrical Akira

Anime on DVD is encouraging anime fans to support the theatrical premier of the restored print of Akira at the AMC Empire 25 in Times Square next week. “Take a road trip; tell a friend; spread the word; pass it on!” The success of the New York City premier may have a direct effect on the distribution of the film to other theatrical markets around the country. Keep in mind that poor attendance to theatrical test screenings of Princess Mononoke in Minneapolis, MN last year doomed the film to extremely limited national theatrical distribution. Don’t let the same thing happen to Akira!
