Opening A Day
To refresh your memory or introduce you to an interesting opening animation sequence, I submit the very unusual opening of director Mamoru Oshii’s 1989 OVA series Gosenzosama Banbanzai. The opening theme is “Gosenzosama Banbanzai!,” sung by Yumi Kojima.

…and they got away with this? Nothing really happens for the first twenty seconds, and the opening doesn’t really begin to experiment visually until about one minute in. Very unusual indeed.
This whole OVA series employs a very striking, highly stylized minimalist animation design, so the unusual opening is very appropriate.
