Opening A Day
To refresh your memory or introduce you to an interesting opening animation sequence, I submit to you the opening of 2007’s Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! television series. Megumi Hayashibara performs the opening theme song “Lucky & Happy.”

The spray painting concept is pretty fun. Also, good to recall that Hayashibara is still picking and choosing some roles long after she’s settled down with a family and whatnot.
This was VERY good! Is the show as good and inventive as the opening?
I’m a big, big fan of Manabi Straight; however, I know that it’s not to everyone’s taste. I think it’s very similar to K-On, although not quite as sappy. Manabi Straight, like K-On, is a slice of life show about a small circle of school girls, so not a whole lot ever really happens. The actual show isn’t quite as gimmicky as the opening (not that I’m using “gimmicky” in a negative light), but the opening does evoke the atmosphere and the crisp editing that typifies the show.
