Ugh, that dub is terrible! It is so much worse than the Anime Works produced dub in the US, which did have a number poor casting and directing issues. The translation and acting in this dub are just as poor and misguided as the renaming of the series. Curse you, ADV!
This does remind of the fan-made mockumentary about anime conventions, “This is Otakudom!”
Paraphrasing: In response to the question why the name of the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs was changed, “We wanted to take advantage of the popularity of the X-Men and the public assumption that all anime is porn.”
Just to clarify, Sony’s “Samurai X” dub has no relation to ADV. It came first, and ADV later adopted the title “Samurai X” because they thought that Sony was going to release its dub of the TV series in America. Instead, Media Blasters released the TV series in America with an entirely new English dub.
