Parasyte Movie Progressing

Variety Magazine has reported that Academy Award nominated production designer Bo Welch has been contracted to direct the American live action adaptation of Hitosi Iwaaki’s graphic horror manga Parasyte. Welch has received Oscar nods for his set design work on Men In Black, The Birdcage, and A Little Princess. He’s currently at work on Men In Black 2. The film will be produced by the Henson Company and Don Murphy’s Angryfilms.

Iwaaki’s gruesome comic tells the story of any alien parasite that takes over young Mike’s left hand. Mike (originally named “Shin” in the Japanese version) and “Lefty” then form an uneasy alliance to save the rest of the world from an alien invasion. The manga, which is still ongoing in Japan, is currently being translated into English by TokyoPop.
