PlayStation Network Offers Commercial Anime Rentals

Sony’s PlayStation Store online video content delivery system for the Playstation 3 and PSP has launched for the American market. The service includes ten FUNimation anime titles, the 2003 Astro Boy television series, and the “exclusive” new anime series from studio Bones, “Xam’d: Lost Memories” (Bounen no Xamdou). Although the Playstation Store is accessible through a standard computer internet connection, videos distributed through the Playstation Store are only viewable via Playstation 3 and Playstation Portable.

Standard definition resolution TV episodes of FUNimation titles and Astro Boy cost $1.99 each per 24 hour viewing period.

The Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles movie is available for a 24 hour viewing period at $7.99.

The first episode of Xam’d: Lost Memories is available for a 24 hour rental at $2.99 for standard definition resolution and $3.99 for high definition resolution.
