Playstation Price Cuts Now Official

As of late yesterday, Sony officially lowered the price on virtually its entire line of Playstation hardware in America. The Playstation 2 now carries a retail price of $199, and the PSone now retails for only $49. The Playstation 2 memory card and dual shock 2 hand control now retail for $24 each, and the dual shock 1 controller now retails for $19. The PSone combination of console and portable LCD screen has also dropped by $50 to now retail for $149. Similar price cuts for Playstation game software titles are being considered.

In Japan, Sony has officially eliminated the suggested retail price of the PS2, PSone, and PSone LCD screen, allowing retailers to set their own prices. The current Japanese open market price of 24,000 yen for the PSone with LCD screen will be set at a Sony mandated suggested retail price of 18,000 yen.
