Production I.G to Animate Miss Hokusai

Production I.G has announced plans to animate a feature film based on the late Hinako Sugiura’s acclaimed historical manga Sarusuberi. Summer Days with Coo & Colorful director Keiichi Hara will direct “Miss Hokusai,” a biographical film about famous painter Katsushika Hokusai’s third daughter, who spent her life assisting her father and sometimes even painting the art that was credited to “Hokusai.” Colorful screenwriter Miho Maruo is writing the film. Denno Coil chief animation director Yoshimi Itazu will serve as the film’s animation director. A Letter to Momo & Wolf Children art director Hiroshi Ohno will supervise the film’s background art. Award-winning manga creator Hinako Sugiura serialized her Sarusuberi manga from 1983 to 1987. She passed away at age 46 in 2005.
