Ran Returns to Theatres

RAN is not anime, but is undoubtedly something that should be seen. RAN is Akira Kurosawa’s (Seven Samurai, Yojimbo) adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear. Winstar Cinema, a theatrical distribution company based in New York, sent Anime News Network this information about the re-release of Kurosawa’s “RAN:” “This summer, we are re-releasing Kurosawa’s masterpiece, RAN, into theatres. This film is being distributed in brand new wide screen prints and subtitles (opening date in NY is August 18th).” A new web-site has been set up for the re-release.
