Sentai Acquires Angel Beats!
|Sentai Filmworks has announced its acquisition of the cult hit 2010 anime television series Angel Beats! The satire of typical school-based dating simulation computer games will be released on bilingual DVD and Blu-ray at at unspecified future date.
While certainly massively popular in the hardcore otaku community, it remains to be seen if and how much Angel Beats! can secure and sustain the attention of average American anime viewers. Typical American viewers unfamiliar with the nuances and conventions of “galge” anime may find Angel Beats! a bit inaccessible.

I was going to write about this acquisition myself… But after reading through five different websites containing some six different reviews/synopses, I couldn’t for the life of me actually figure out what this anime was about (assuming it was about anything to begin with, I suppose).
So I ask then, is there any substance to this title? Because I had a hell of a time finding the remnants of any.
The description of “satire” now has me looking up at least a couple episodes of it, albeit with low expectations. Like Aaron I barely have a concept of what this show is about.
ok, so it’s satire in the way of Suzumiya Haruhi– a real jumble of genre tropes from all across the otaku universe sledgehammered into a high school context, teetering on the edge of disbelief, and sometimes diving head-first into it. It’s not great but it’s amusing
