Shunji Iwai’s First Anime Online

Acclaimed live-action film director Shunji Iwai’s first anime shorts have been added to YouTube this week. Iwai is best known for his multi-award-winning live-action feature films including Swallowtail Butterfly (1996), April Story (1997), and All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001). Iwai also wrote director Ryuhei Kitamura’s 2009 rotoscoped sci-fi anime short film Baton. Iwai’s three “Town Workers” anime shorts are likewise rotoscope animation.
