Sparrow’s Hotel to Be Retooled for DVD

The homepage for the current anime television series Sparrow’s Hotel has announced that the show will be completely re-drawn for its Japanese home video release. The “director’s edition” home video release will feature entirely new art & character designs. The current series of three-minute anime episodes based on Yuka Santoh’s gag manga is animated by studios Dream Creation and Hotline with character designs by Death Note & Mawaru Penguindrum key animator Daisuke Kusakari. The show has been widely criticized for having “amateurish-looking” art design.

Part of me is fascinated by and very curious about this announcement while part of me is disappointed that fans don’t just accept the show the way it is. The goofy art design and limited animation really contribute to the off-kilter oddity of the show.
