Squaresoft Officially Retires from Movie Industry

In response to the disappointing 30 million dollar gross earned by Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within in North America and similarly disappointing box office results in Japan, according to the Nikkei News, Square has officially announced their withdrawl from the movie-making business.

Earlier reports were that characters from the Final Fantasy movie would be recycled in new Square/Columbia full digital films. Such plans are apparently no longer in consideration.
