Student Anime Short Online
|21 year-old Kyoto Seika University manga department student Hiroyasu Ishida has uploaded his 2:22 original anime short film Fumiko no Kokuhaku (Fumiko’s Confession) to YouTube. Ishida directed, animated, edited, and recorded the short himself. He was assisted in the creation of the backgrounds, 3D CG textures, in-between animation, and 3D modeling.
This is quite a fun little short. It has a lot of personality in its brief length.

Sweet Anime Jesus this is amazing. This is the kind of universal material that doesn’t require a translation to fully enjoy. The animation is superb, the character designs are unique, and the sound design is top notch. Hiroyasu Ishida and his crew obviously have real talent.
I love student films, they’re always full of surprises. Ishida’s work here has some incredible production design in the first thirty seconds or so.
Student film animation in the States isn’t always as fantastic as those from France, Canada, or Japan because on the majority the projects (in the States) are solo-productions… but every great animation program has its fare share of great shorts.

Pretty cool. Reminds me of Masaaki Yuasa’s animation when he does his full-moving-background stuff… it has a similar energy.
Aaron: the deficit of (relatively) high production value indie/solo animation in the ‘States might have something to do with a lack of Gov’t funding for those kinds of arts, IIRC.
