Takara Buys Tatsunoko

Takara has purchased an 88 percent share of anime studio Tatsunoko Productions. The deal is estimated to be worth more than 1 billion yen ($8.9 million). Tatsunoko Productions was founded in 1962 and created numerous blockbuster anime TV series and movies, including Speed Racer (Mach Go Go Go) and Gatchaman. The stake was acquired from the founders of the studio. Takara is currently set to merge with Tomy on March 1. The recent acquisition of a majority stake in Tatsunoko Productions will let the soon-to-be-merged companies use the anime studio’s properties for future game and toy products.
