Toei to Revive Sukeban Deka Franchise

Inspired by strong sales of the recently released Sukeban Deka DVD boxed set, Toei Studios has contracted director Kenta Fukasaku (Battle Royale 2) and star Aya Matsuura to film “Sukeban Deka: Code Name = Asamiya Saki,” the third Sukeban Deka (“Female Delinquent Detective”) motion picture, and the first new entry in the franchise since the 1991 anime OAV series. The delinquent high-school girl detective with killer yo-yo franchise premiered in 1976 as a manga series created by Shinji Wada.

Media Blasters will release the 1987 first Sukeban Deka motion picture on American DVD on the 28th.
