Toho Plans Aggressive Move Into Anime Production
|Japan’s Toho Co., Ltd., established in 1932, is one of Japan’s biggest feature film distributors and a major producer behind the films of Studio Ghibli and anime films including the Pocket Monster franchise, the Inuyasha movies, and last year’s Okami Kodomo. Toho has now announced plans to aggressive expand its business into anime development and creation. Toho’s first in-house anime production will be next month’s 24-episode Ginga Kikotai Majestic Prince sci-fi action/comedy television series.
It’s kind of a wonder why Toho waited so many years before deciding to establish its own anime studio.

They don’t specialize in anime, so why should they start now, other than ‘cus they have extra capital? Though it does baffle me why they didn’t fund their own anime Godzilla, instead of letting Hanna Barbera do it first
