TOKYOPOP Announces New Manga Licenses
|TOKYOPOP Announced yesterday its acquisition of translation rights to 6 manga titles: G-Gundam, Gatekeepers, Scryed, Rave, King of Bandits Jing, and Samurai Deeper Kyo.
The Mobile Fighter G-Gundam manga by Tokita Kouichi was published in 3 volumes in Japan in 1995. It is based on the successful TV series currently broadcast in America on the Cartoon Network.
Keiji Gotoh’s Gatekeepers manga currently has 2 collected volumes in Japan. It is based on the popular anime TV and OAV series which is itself based on the original Gatekeepers adventure game for the Playstation.
Written by Yosuke Kuroda and illustrated by Yasunari Toda, Scryed has been called the X-Men of manga. The ongoing series currently has 5 collected volumes of manga. It was turned into a successful anime TV series last year.
Hiro Mashima’s Groove Adventure Rave manga was also turned into a popular anime TV series last year. The ongoing fantasy/adventure story currently has 18 volumes of collected manga.
Yuichi Kumakura’s King of Bandits Jing manga series is a visual fantasy classic in the tradition of Alice in Wonderland and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The manga also inspired an anime TV series scheduled for American release by AD Vision. The O-Dorobo Jing manga concluded in 7 Japanese volumes.
Written by Akimine Kamijiyo, Samurai Deeper Kyo is a historic adventure series in the spirit of Rurouni Kenshin. The bestselling ongoing series currently has 17 volumes of manga and a current anime TV series broadcast by TV Tokyo.
