TOKYOPOP Confirms Additional Layoffs

TOKYOPOP marketing director Marc Pavia has confirmed for Publishers Weekly that TOKYOPOP laid off 8 employees last week. These latest layoffs come a week after TOKYOPOP laid off 7 employees the week before, and 39 employees last June. The cuts come in response to drastically declining sales in the American publishing industry. Pavia emphasized, “Tokyopop is still in business, and we are still focusing on our core business.”

Drastic sales declines have been hitting all of America’s anime/manga industry especially hard, necessitating layoffs from TOKYOPOP and other companies in the American anime/manga industry.
