TOKYOPOP Licenses Five CLAMP Manga
|TOKYOPOP has just announced plans to publish English language adaptations of five different manga titles by the “rock stars of manga,” CLAMP. The titles include CLAMP School Detectives, The Man of Many Faces, and Duklyon: CLAMP School Defenders- all three titles set in the shared “CLAMP School Universe,” and two stand-alone manga volumes: Miyuki Chan in Wonderland and Shirahime-syo: Snow Goddess Tales.
CLAMP Campus Detectives is the basis of the anime TV series released in America by Bandai under the title “CLAMP School.” Man of Many Faces is shoujo romantic comedy focusing on Akira Ijyuin, one of the three CLAMP campus detectives. Duklyon: CLAMP School Defenders is a wacky parody of live-action sentai hero shows about a pair of elite armor clad teenage policemen that protect the CLAMP School from otherworldly invaders.
Miyuki-chan in Wonderland is the basis for the short anime OAV released by AD Vision and combines Alice in Wonderland with the entire CLAMP universe, including X, Rayearth, and Tokyo Babylon. The book features over a dozen full-color art pages, including character designs from the cult classic anime.
Shirahime-syo: Snow Goddess Tales is an anthology of folktales about the “Snow Goddess,” whose tears create snow. The art style is a departure from typical CLAMP artwork, being made up of brushstrokes and naturalistic backgrounds. TOKYOPOP plans to release Shirahime-syo: Snow Goddess Tales as a special edition hardback before the book debuts in paperback form.
