TOKYOPOP To Decrease Altering Manga

TOKYOPOP has announced plans to cease re-drawing visual sound effects in manga published under their “100% Authentic Manga” line. Previously certain manga translations from the publisher edited out the original kanji sound effects in backgrounds, replacing them with English language terms like “bang!” or “zoom!” Manga in the “100% Authentic” line will retain their original Japanese background art. Other translated manga and Chinese “manwha” comics may or may not continue to have their original art altered for the American market on a case-by-case basis.
