Update on Macross Plus Movie DVD

Manga Entertainment’s long anticipated domestic DVD release of the Macross Plus movie edition is scheduled for April 30th. Digitally Obsessed has published the first review of the disc, which includes points like to both please and disappoint fans. Unlike the original 4 episode OAV release on two DVDs which included only a 2.0 stereo Japanese language track, the Macross Plus movie offers robust Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. The movie is subtitled only because no English language dub version was ever created. However, the Macross Plus DVD is “hard subtitled” meaning that the English subtitles are not optional and are not removeable.

The Macross Plus movie edition is a heavily condensed version of the original 4 OAV episodes featuring 30 minutes of original new animation. Many Macross, anime and film fans consider the movie version more effective, dramatic and superior to the original OAVs.
