Viz at Anime Expo
|Viz spent a good deal of time at their Anime Expo panel talking about their manga releases. The big news out of this is their licensing of Yuu Watase’s Ayashi No Ceres. Viz also stated that they have the rights to the Revolutionary Girl Utena manga. In terms of the Maison Ikkoku anime, there will not be any more dubbed releases. Volumes 19-21 will be released subtitled only, 2 episodes per tape. Viz also announced that Maison Ikkoku will not have a DVD release unless “sales pick up considerably.” They will be doing a new Ranma OAV DVD pressing to fix the reversed stereo. As for a trade-in, they said they’re discussing it and it will probably be a mail-in type deal. As for Video Girl Ai being released on DVD, they do not have the rights, so if it does happen it will not be in the near future. They are actively persuing the US rights to the upcoming Inu-Yasha television series. Inu-Yasha has previously only been animated only for a brief television commercial to promote the manga series.
