Warner Considering Restarting Akira Project
|Variety reports that Warner Bros. is once again negotiating with director Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Orphan) to direct the American live-action Akira film. Collet-Serra was originally brought on board the film project in July 2011 after director Albert Hughes resigned from the production citing “creative differences.” Hughes replaced tentative director Stephen Norrington, who replaced tentative director Steven de Souza. Warner then completely shut down production of the movie in January 2012 citing that the film budget that had been reduced to 90 million was still too high. Now Warner is courting Collet-Serra to begin filming Akira next spring.
