Yu-Gi-Oh Breaks Sales Records

Yu-Gi-Oh! Dual Monster collectable card game sales have now reached over 3 billion units, making Yu-Gi-Oh the most successful “post-Pokemon” monster collecting franchise in Japan. Some of the very rare cards have sold to collectors for prices ranging from a few thousand yen to over a million yen (several thousand dollars to over 10 thousand US dollars per card!). Konami corporation, the licensors of Yu-Gi-Oh, have announced disappointment over such fanatic after-market sales, saying, “To obtain rare cards is similar to winning a gold medal for the fans. It is a sad thing to see these cards being sold for money, because that is like selling gold medals won at competitions.” Plans are already underway for the Yu-Gi-Oh anime television series, CCG and Gameboy and Playstation games to make their way to America sometime next year.
