Toho Plans Aggressive Move Into Anime Production

Japan’s Toho Co., Ltd., established in 1932, is one of Japan’s biggest feature film distributors and a major producer behind the films of Studio Ghibli and anime films including the Pocket Monster franchise, the Inuyasha movies, and last year’s Okami Kodomo. Toho has now announced plans to aggressive expand its business into anime development and creation. Toho’s first in-house anime production will be next month’s 24-episode Ginga Kikotai Majestic Prince sci-fi action/comedy television series.

It’s kind of a wonder why Toho waited so many years before deciding to establish its own anime studio.
